I moved there a year ago and I like it, it's not noisy except when there's football/orange order/the odd boy racer at night, it's walking distance to town, close to Glasgow green/the river. Only wee shops, but the polish shop has amazing fresh bread, and there's a veg van on Tuesdays and Fridays. The train into town takes 5 minutes and costs under 2 quid return, if I want a bougie day out its 15 minutes to dennistoun, and the forge is about 20 minutes walk. The afro-caribbean restaurant is fab but that's about it for restaurants. There's several pubs but I don't go in them so don't know what they're like!
When I moved, I got a lot of comments from friends about how rough the east end is etc. But it's all overblown, it's a generally quiet, chilled and friendly part of the city. There's a bit of a small town feel to it and folk will smile as they pass or strike up conversations in shops (that's maybe just Glasgow in general though; I'm from Edinburgh). I just avoid it during any Celtic/rangers games!
