Kitchen diner is great, but having stayed in flats with an open plan kitchen/lounge and another straight after with a more old fashioned separate kitchen, the latter was really preferable to us because it meant you could close off the kitchen. You aren't sitting in your lounge of an evening staring at dishes or getting stale smells of food (especially frying) wafting about. So I suppose it's just horses for courses, if either had a dishwasher then I'd probably have been more keen on the open plan system.
