Maybe it depends where in Glasgow you live. I'm a middle aged woman, not looking for trouble, nor an 'entitled moron' but I've had more than a handful of near misses and other incidents since I started cycling to work 6 years ago. The most recent was last night when a puce-faced driver had a go at me for not giving way to him (he pulled out around a row of parked cars and drove towards me on my side of the road).

I don't have any 'horror stories', that said, and I've never been knocked off my bike. The only time I've come off is when I misjudged a patch of black ice on a hill in winter, so entirely my own fault for not getting the bus that day.

(Edit - I'd still recommend cycling though! it's cheap and it's never dull. And to the OP, I'd recommend insurance if you're worried about your bike - mine costs me £8 a month, and covers third party damage too)
