If I see someone wearing a mask I just assume they are either vulnerable or more concerned about catching covid than I am for reasons that are entirely their own business. Mask wearers are in a minority but there are enough of them that it's not weird and nobody will look twice at you, even if you wear one outdoors.

I've literally never heard covid referred to as a Chinese virus beyond the first few weeks of the pandemic or out of Donald Trump's mouth so don't worry about that.
