We did this with our dog years ago. Our dog flew with my partner into Chicago ORD > Manchester I drove down to Manchester and collected both of them. It was ridiculously expensive well over a decade ago costing more than the human travel costs.
At the time only London Heathrow and Manchester were valid ports of entry for animals for air travel.
Our wee dog had to spend the entire trans-Atlantic flight in the hold in a flight travel approved crate that we had to buy. By the time we got her she was dehydrated and bursting for a pee.
One thing you MUST do as soon as possible is research rabies vaccinations. I seem to recall we had to start that many months before travel and there are only certain veterinarians approved to manage the vaccination protocol.

The UK is rabies free and is very strict on such matters. If you are tempted to take short cuts and get caught its many months of quarantine at your cost and probably wouldn't help with a visa application. However your pet crosses into UK territory you will have to comply with the regulations to avoid being separated from your beloved pet.

You really have two distinct problems, one, figuring out a route and two, legally bringing you pet into the country. Having personally done this, the second is by far the most difficult.
