Majority of people I know regularly take gear, have done in the past, or would do so now if offered. Scariest aspect is that it is not even a case of doing it at special events either. I’ve seen folk take gear at funerals, family gatherings, pub quizzes etc.
I think that it’s so ubiquitous because of Glasgow’s history with addiction combined with the relative easiness to source gear. You can get a gram dropped off quicker than a Dominos.
One of the boys in the video says that it goes hand in hand with bevvy, and this is the main factor for me. A few pints down and decision making goes out the window. If you take alcohol out the equation, cocaine won’t be seen as a necessity for some.
No idea how we can fix it. Sure, we can prevent deaths which is superb, but people will always be sniffing gear: its an escapism. I’m not certain that decriminalisation is the answer for cocaine; it’s too dangerous. |
