Comment | Right I'm no fighting or getting heated with anyone tonight but I'll try explaining the prices and how it works. I don't know the op but ..,,,,,,
The places mentioned in the article are council owned. They're not rented to the public. They're private GCC facilities. So they're cheaper. GCC sold off most their hostels from the early to mid 00s and the homeless thing was mostly handed over to private business.
Go into booking.com and look at hotel prices, the average is about 70 to a hundred, so if you are out in a hotel by the council the hotel will charge the standard rate, so X that 70 or whatever by a month and you get?
The other issue is these 'hotel' owners have sussed the council are totally reliant on them so they can price gauge.
Most homeless know the exact price cos when you move in, you receive your paperwork from the council and this tells you exactly what they are paying for you to stay where you're staying they have to tell you by law.
I thought mine was 660 but had a look at my forms just now and it's 580 a week.
I also know prem inn charge 120 a night to house homeless.
Only way out the mess is for the council to build more housing or hostels.
And despite the council ones being cheaper they tend to be by far the most violent, it's not always but most the time the worst are out to them. |
