Sorry to read about your bad experiences with the medications. I hope that you are doing better now and your quality of life has improved.

Rather than recommending that someone avoids the GP though, it's good to bear in mind that treatment can vary from one practice to another, so if you don't feel supported then it is a good idea to try at least one other place if possible. My GP has been *incredibly* supportive and has really hammered home the importance of assessment and psychotherapy before medications, which is something I was sceptical about before. Without his help I don't know what sort of state I'd be in.


Edit: GPs are also there to help patients navigate and understand what's happening in the NHS system, too. Aside from treatments that my GP recommended and referred me for, this in itself was a great help when I found that the process of getting treatment through the NHS was taking its toll even when the actual treatment itself was helping.
