The only reason why you'd want a car is to get OUT of Glasgow - there is amazing stuff to explore in the surrounding landscapes and a car is great for this. But you can get by for a long time just going to places accessible via public transport and hiring a car for the occasional excursion. Just for moving about in the city, there is absolutely no point owning a car, as others have said.
