It’s hard to say exactly as there are so many factors. I’ve seen lack of handlers to load and dispatch all the aircraft in the morning first wave. I’ve seen sick aircrew so they need to rely on crew that may have been flying the night before and need “minimum crew rest period” which could push back a departure in the morning. It only takes 1 or 2 delays in the morning and it throws the whole flying programme out. A factor airlines try to keep quiet, see that compensation that everyone gets if a flight is delayed over 3 hours? If they see that’s going to happen they will jiggle the flying programme around, moving aircraft onto different flights doing so causing delays to the whole programme but will prevent the 3 hour delay and save the airline £35,700 in compensation for one A320 with 170 seats.
