Rutherglen is largely sound. Take whatever the subreddit says about rough places with a giant pinch of salt.

90% of r/Glasgow are sheltered as fuck and are absolute curtain twitching weirdos who phone the coppers if they see a neighbour putting the wrong bin out on a Saturday. Legit saw a guy make a thread asking what he should do because girlfriend was coming to live with him and there were drunk people near his flat being loud one night and some of the answers were legit to get the polis involved.

I've lived in Castlemilk my entire life so no stranger to living in an actual bit of a rough area. Rutherglen is decent. Is there some trouble? Yep. Point me to a place where there's never any trouble in Glasgow, though.

The transport links are decent, there's plenty of shops in the main street, you're close to the motorway if you drive.

There's a couple of not bad pubs in the main street either. A spoons if you're looking for a few cheap libations and the picture house is pretty similar. Depends really what you're into. If you want to sit and tan a guest craft pint imported from Belgium in the corner of a dark pub whilst listening to cannibal corpse, then there aren't any decent places in ruggy for you.

Greenhill road isn't exactly the most picturesque place in the world, but it's relatively safe. My uncle stayed in the flats there for years with no issues at all. My other uncle and aunt stay in a flat Rutherglen main street and has done since I was born and hasn't had any issues either.
