The spot was originally going to be for King George 3rd… but public opinion on his well publicised stints of madness made them think again as they didn’t think he would be remembered fondly.

Sir Walter was the JK Rowling/Ian Rankin of his day. His writings were extremely popular and tours of ‘Walter Scott’s Scotland’ were a bit of a trend.

It’s often argued that Scott’s writing is part of our National character as it underpins and romanticises so many themes and characteristics that we have recognised and ‘claimed’ as Scottish.
