Correct me if I’m wrong but is an MEng not a 5 year course? If so you’ve still got next summer.

Anyhow, I think you’re panicking over nothing. Not everyone who starts off as a grad has industry experience. Yes, it looks good and might give you an edge when it comes to interviewing, but please don’t think it’s the be all and end all of your engineering career.

If you’re still really desperate to find something then go to as many extracurricular activities as you can, i.e. evening lectures etc., where you’ll have the chance to speak to folk from industry. I know it’s not easy, I suffer from anxiety myself, but if you get the chance to, ask about summer placements etc. It might surprise you just how effective showing a wee bit of enthusiasm can be, especially if you end up speaking to someone who has some influence within their company.
