American here. Shops close much earlier than you're used to and a lot of the smaller ones don't even open on Sundays.

There are no tabs at bars. Be prepared to whip your card out each time you order.

Someone asking "How?" means "why?"

Generally you'll hear a lot more cursing than you're probably used to and you'll eventually get used to hearing the word "cunt" all the time.

Charity shops are awesome and they're for everyone (friend of mine didn't go for ages because she assumed they were only for the needy).

You will feel sluggish in winter because it's dark much earlier. Get some vitamin D tablets.

Not paying at the doctor or chemist feels weird at first, but you'll soon learn to enjoy it!
