| Comment | So most of the posts here will be about rescue dogs, and whilst that’s great you have asked for a puppy from a reputable breeder so I will help you with what you’ve actually asked for.
Firstly it will help if you decide what breed you want. Let’s assume golden retriever, as they are the best.
Check the [kennel club website](https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/search/find-a-puppy/) and triple check you can cope with a dog. If you’re completely happy, they have a search tool which I’ve linked to, that will show reputable breeders with litters coming up. These dogs will come with approved/clear bloodline so potentially may have fewer medical ailments than a gumtree puppy. They will usually have to have medical checks, such as eyes and hips for retrievers.
Another place to look would be whether there are any local breed-specific organisations that may be able to help with their own breeder lists, such as golden retrievers Scotland. They also might help with re-homing dogs too, especially ex-service dogs that may not have made the grade.
