After years and years of my wife and kids nagging me to get a dog. I caved.

Now we did try and get a rescue, but local dogs trust had massive demand due to covid and also our kids were under ten.

We thought we were prepared.

A puppy is harder work than a baby, they may look cute and you have fun moments.

Also a huge cost, much higher than we expected.

We were so close to giving the dog up so many times. But 1. The dog we have is very good, very cute or it would have been gone long ago.

2. We didn’t want to teach our kids to give up when something gets tough.

The other thing ti consider is cleaning, we have a dog that doesn’t cast much, fuck me constant dog hairs.

Other thing to consider is holidays, you need someone to take the dog for a few weeks if you want a holiday abroad.

On the plus side, I’ve lost a tonne of weight, as naturally the walking seems to be my job.

If you really want a dog, see if you can dog sit for a friend or family to check if it’s really for you.
