Even traditional roasts are made really well with seasoning in some places I've been though. Just because it's potatoes doesn't mean it's bland, again, you've not been to any good spots it seems. Because there are some.

Thing is, in the US, [stuff like this](https://theculturetrip.com/north-america/usa/articles/10-traditional-american-dishes-you-need-to-try/) is your traditional food. That's really not far off traditonal british foods. Cooked meats, starch, basic. The base is there, it depends how you season. Like really, a hot dog is as bland as I can think. Bread, sausage, ketchup, maybe mustard? meh
