Do go the nhs process. As someone else has said, if you want management on the nhs they won’t accept a private diagnosis. A lot of the private companies will give diagnoses at really high rates and don’t use standardised methods or give details for how it was diagnosed or other details if asked by nhs services later, so the nhs, I think, has a blanket policy to only do in house assessments.

I will warn you that this will take a long time. Psychiatry services have been stretched for a long time, and in the last 6-12 months there has been a major spike in referrals for possible adhd in adults (partly stems from a lot of stuff on TikTok) so the sections that do adhd assessments are really stretched.

There are things you could do while waiting or considering even asking for a referral.

add.org and adhduk.co.uk have questionnaires you can do which could indicate to you if adhd is likely. There is also Addiss.co.uk is also worth a look. They will also have information on management.

Adhd is a life long condition and symptoms have to have been present in childhood. If it’s issues that have only been present in adulthood then an adhd referral may not be helpful, but other there may be another form of help is better.

Good luck
