So I went into MacSorleys last night. It’s true the Red Stripe is delicious. The nicest pint I have had in a long time. I also eyed up the two wee Red Stripe buckets that they have at the front door for fag ends.

I am not a lager storage expert but I think it may be due to the temperature. It seemed just cold enough but not like as cold as a Tango Ice Blast which is often the case.

Not sure if there is an optimum temperature for lager and how much effort bars go to In maintaining this. It may well be that in MacSorleys the kegs are in a sweet spot in the cellar that suits Red Stripe. I do know that as liquids get colder the feeling of taste diminishes. Room temperature lager will have a lot more flavour but probably not as enjoyable. The same goes for soft drinks.

I then tried Blackfriars again and the pint was noticeably more chilled but as I got near the bottom and the glass had warmed in my hand the flavour improved. It was still a very nice mind you.

I hadn’t really paid attention to lager temperature before and it looks like it’s becoming my specialist subject. 😀

Would be good to hear what others think. Maybe I am imagining the difference in flavours as I get more unsteady!
