invest in a dehumidifier. A big one, not a wee one. I got one from vax (reduced from like, 120 to 90 due to a damaged box) and it's been a life saver when we had damp issues. Plus its great for drying laundry, or just on fan mode to run air through the filter. Keep your eye out for them on gumtree.
