Grew up in Govan in the late 90s and moved to Pollok in the early 00s. Hung about with a bunch of fucking arseholes who liked fighting and vandalising and burning shit.
Luckily managed to do alright in school and make it into college then uni where I moved away first chance I got. Skint as fuck 100% of the time. Grafted like a maniac in shite minimum wage jobs working 40-50 hour weeks while studying at the same time. Fuck knows how I managed to get through it looking back on it.
I live and work for an engineering firm in new york now. Not permanently thankfully.
Sometimes I still consider myself a bit of a fucking bam. Imposter syndrome is rough as fuck when you can't ditch the accent and mannerisms of being a ned for nearly 20 years. Worked a few corporate jobs now (some back in Scotland) and I don't think I'll ever shake the feeling of not belonging in places like this. Cunts look at you different. |
