From someone who has cycled for years and knows Glasgow and all its paths and shortcuts I think my advice is reasonable. It’s certainly not a load of rubbish. If you want to cycle through glass and shite with softer tyres then feel free to do so. My general point is that removing anything unnecessary from a bike gets the weight down and makes it more agile.

Cycling in the wet was never mentioned by the OP. That’s another discussion.

You seem to be stating that there is nothing that one can do to a bike to make life easier. That is an absurd position to take. Hope I don’t ever ask you for advice in a bike shop or wherever you work.
