Tough to go off-grid in Scotland due to low sunlight hours in winter and the need to therefore have light and heat longer in the day. Shite thing is that you're still paying 50p/day standing charge for electric, so there's a reasonable chance that a good chunk of what you currently pay isn't even going towards your usage. And they'll happily shaft you for disconnecting and reconnecting if you get ideas about off-grid for the summer!

We got panels in Feb, remains to be seen if they'll save us anything but were more about the environment and to future-proof against price rises in future. Didn't get batteries as the business case just didn't stack up for me.

We used LiveEco and can definitely recommend the service (and were one of the cheapest).
