If you go to a GP you may be offered a detox, but it's highly unlikely. Your GP will refer you to your local ADRS Alcohol Drug Recovery Service.
If there's children involved you will have to undergo a Parental Substance Misuse Assessment.
You may be offered what's known as ORT Opiate Replacement Therapy like methadone or suboxone or Buvidal depending on which worker you get.
I would personally recommend attending a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, this is a place where others who have been where you've been, have got clean and mainly apply a 12 Step program. A fellowship of recovering addicts who help each other stay clean.
