| Comment | Something to consider is that if you *don't* go to your own GP and decide to use/self-refer to on of the 'addiction agencies', you will end-up in the system in a much less personal and private/discreet way. From the tone of your post I would suggest that you try to deal with this through a GP whom you know and trust, and resist any attempt to refer you to 'specialist' agencies.
These agencies, which have varying names depending on location, are geared up to deal mainly with for want of a better word 'addicts'. You will be treated like either an offender or a stupid child, simply because that's how they *have* to treat 99% of their clients. They have protocols that they follow which are designed mainly to keep problem individuals from offending and are not concerned with things like keeping a job, having a car, or maintaining the appearance of a respectable citizen. They have a couple of 'go-to' one-size-fits-all treatments that have a good chance of leaving you even more drug-dependant than you already are; but now with the added bonus that you get served at the 'methadone window' when you go to the chemist, and you're at high risk of losing your driving license! |
