I grew up with this behaviour and used to think that it was part n parcel of life. If you couldnt win the fight then you did your best and taking a moderate kicking as opposed to running away made you a "man".
Fast forward 20 years and ive seen more and worse than a buckie bottle wielding bam in my life, made some mistakes of my own over the years and put in hard yards to make my life worth living.
And its losing that life thats worth living that gives them the power over you and me.
I cannae catch a charge, Im not spending another night of my life in cells, Im not risking injury that could effect my work and most importantly of all I'm not brutalizing myself by injuring another in self defence, prior experience has taught me how suddenly that can happen.
Saying just ignore them and try to avoid conflict is easier to tell yourself when you dont have and engrained threat response built up by prior traumas.
But your dealing with people who lack that depth of understanding.
I'm sorry that happened to you and im livid that brushing it off is your only recourse. Its unacceptable and people who would assert that its too minor to complain about just have their expectations and self worth beaten down by similar events.
