Lots of hotels opened to the homeless/asylum seekers (what used to be called "DSS tenants") during COVID because it gives a guaranteed clientele and because they aren't trying to attract customers housekeeping etc can be cut way back.
Pretty exploitative, but then the British (and Scottish) state is a very different beast for those at the margins than it is for most people. Dickensian, Orwellian, and Kafkaesque. |
