Lidl is my savior.
Just moved to UK this July and found Lidl has all the things I need.. bakery for brunch and snacks at teatime, fusilli or spaghetti accompanied by prok/beef stew, less than £70/month for a couple (and I have big appetite)
But you better have your own fridge otherwise your food could be stolen by flatmate...
