I would definitely say to be persistent, either followup emails or perhaps phoning direct and asking to speak to the head of a department or head teacher.

Just consider timing though, first thing in the morning can be a busy time in schools but by 11am things perhaps settle a bit more.

There's an active teacher community on Twitter which may be worth looking at and an opportunity to DM staff or school departments.

I had to be persistent and it took a few followup emails and email different people.

I also got experience through the VTO (Volunteer Tutors Organisation). They offer homework clubs and tutor support.

They were fantastic and I plan to go back and help them again when I can. That's direct classtoom experience in a bit more of a slower paced environment with less kids. Was great experience.
