I get your point totally, however, in this climate of rising energy prices, inflation and recession - surely we should be protecting our renters, who already live in the area, by giving them a set renting price for a fixed period of time, rather than having it rise yearly with all the other costs.

Believe it or not, there are many low income families already struggling in this area. Hiking prices on new builds thus raising prices in tenements/other housing, could put a lot of people out of their homes, due to falling behind on the payments for rent or mortgages.

If businesses cannot keep up with the rising lease/rent prices on a lot of the places I see here unused and empty, then how can the people who have lived here for years also keep up with the constant rising costs? I think it’s something that the Shawlands MP and Living Rent are currently taking a look at though. So maybe there is some help out there for the folk who need it.
