Comment | In my experience, the problem with community forums on transport is the managing of expectations - almost everyone wants a service that runs pretty much from their door to wherever they need to be, whether that be a major trip attractor like the city centre, hospitals or shopping centre, or to their granny's hoose, or their office on an industrial estate etc. if it's to entice them out of their car.
They also want it to be almost free! Glasgow has a great variety of options for travel, a ZoneCard for frequent users of rail+bus or rail+subway, Tripper for users of multiple bus companies and Smartcards that you can load products on for multiple operators of you travel less frequently.
We're really not as poorly-served as some would have you believe, but public transport just can't compete with private cars. Many European cities make it pretty expensive/ difficult to drive, but GCC will be pilloried for demonising cars if they put up parking charges or when the LEZ comes in. |
