Look to the towns outside Glasgow with good train or bus links to the city, i.e Rutherglen, Paisley, Hillington etc. It's a less competitive market and more living space for your money too.
If I were you I would just go into the rental websites, set a 10 mile radius and see what the transport is like around whatever homes come up.
