Well I do see your point but I think the comparison is poor. The fact is that people want convenience and reliability from public transport. I can't see what you could wish for from a train company for example that would be overall detrimental to you. Many improvement that the travelling public want are immediately shot down by the unions as the staff are about as flexible as an iron bar. The service is filled from top to bottom with staff who only want as much as they can get out of the system with no regard for customer service.

Let's talk about trains in Glasgow. If you ask passengers on the platform what they want they will say this:

1- Reliability / punctuality at all times

2 - Later train services

3 - Cheaper fares

4 - Better reliability on Sundays

5 - Connected ticketing

6 - Higher train frequency

7 - Working on board toilets at all times

8 - Free use of toilets at all train stations

9 - More ticket vending machines / improved reliability of said machines

10 - Friendly customer focused staff

11 - Removal of the alcohol ban

12- Cleaner trains

I think the OP mentioned that Glasgow has the biggest UK suburban network outside of London, so why does it perform so poorly at times. Don't get me wrong not all of the staff are unfocused but many are. The service at times is generally pretty good when there are no ongoing disputes. I can't see from my list of points above what could be detrimental to the travelling passenger. To railway workers it may all appear to be impossible and not all of the issues above can be attributed to the staff directly but the fact remains that is what people want. I have my own views as to why we don't have them, agree or disagree with me if you like.

The issuing of drugs from a vending machine is convenient especially if you can do it 24/7. Obviously there are laws in regards what is available on and off prescription so the machine would have to follow the guidelines. It should not be possible to harm yourself by obtaining drugs that are not suitable for your condition.
