Comment | Bear in mind that the average salary in NYC is almost 3 times that of Glasgow (£75k vs £26k), so the per-capita tax revenue that they have to spend on infrastructure and e.g. transport subsidy is completely different.
Glasgow's problem is that it is still a relatively poor city, so the council tax revenue - even when supplemented by central government - simply isn't comparable to other cities, along with the huge drain that the significant poverty levels have on council finances. |
