Not quite. Patterson is pretty much on the outskirts of Newton Mearns. An option is to run a light rail spur straight along Ayr Road, south of Whitecraigs station.
In fact I'm fairly sure that is one of the plans, just from looking over the preliminary metro map published earlier this year.
