Well, I for that matter live in Cambuslang and commute by train to the city centre here is very good. Before that used to live southside, next to Cathcart Circle and it was mostly reliable and pleasant as well, although not the cheapest.


There are other nice places you could investigate yourself. I would suggest just looking on google maps - and if you click on the tiny symbol on a train station, you will have connections from that station, so you can learn where trains go from there and how often. Google maps is a great tool for establishing such things in Scotland.


So what I do when I move house, I look at the nearby bus and train stops and check connections. I am not an American though, so I am not sure if it will work for you. I never had a reason to check if the trains carry Americans. I would guess though that your nationality is not relevant for them, but since you had a need to stress the continent you are coming from in the title of your post I guess it might be of some relevance?
