You seem adamant on shifting all of the responsibility onto the council, who, as someone else pointed out, have been dealing with the issue. It’s just that it’s got more out of control than normal due to covid etc. Instead of complaining about it on here have you tried reaching out to your local councillor? That’s what they’re there for after all.

Anyway, what I don’t think you seem to be able to grasp is the complexity of a problem like we have with Giant Hogweed, e.g. part of the reason it’s so prevalent around riverbanks etc. is that the seeds are carried downstream every year and it’s practically impossible to prevent this from happening on any meaningful scale. I think the best we can hope for is to either:

a) Invent a time machine so we can go back in time to tell the Victorians not to be dumb fucks by bringing back all these invasive species in the first place.

b) Raise awareness of the issue, e.g. by asking the council to erect signs nearby when the plants are in bloom. I’ve seen this at Cunnigar Loop so it has already been done elsewhere.

I get where you’re coming from but I don’t think this is an issue that’s just going to disappear, no matter how loud you shout about it, and to be honest if your ‘backs turned’ when down by the river with young kids then you probably shouldn’t be there with them in the first place.
