Dont get the council, I did and the dude poured some now irremovable poison under my floorboards, it worked on one of them and I got stuck smelling a dead mouse under my floorboards for days, the rest ignored it.
Fill any holes you find, traps and keep everything clean. A cat is ideal but not always practical
