Bacchus were able to book me space for 20 people at short notice a few weeks back and didnt take a deposit but im not sure if thats their usual practice or just because it was really quiet and they were glad for the business.
Most places in town want deposits to reduce the risk of no shows/lost business if they turn other people away so you might need to pay the deposit.
