You're right, ticketing and frequency. Lower prices would be good too. It shouldn't be cheaper to drive than to take the bus.

Something else that would make a big difference would be a really good direct link between Glasgow Central and Queen Street. An underground rail shuttle or series of travelators like you get in airports. Train connections that involve switching stations are an utter pain in the arse and add so much time (exacerbated by lack of frequency) that driving to the final destination is often the only feasible way.
