As a cyclist I can sense your frustration as a car driver not making good progress in traffic. Nothing I like better than mentally noting the reg numbers of cars that must get in front of me only for me to overtake a couple of minutes later. Revving up that engine and speeding past burning all that highly expensive fossil fuel whilst it costs me fuck all. Calm the beans and get a bike! It also does wonders for your well-being with all that outdoor exercise.
However on your main point some cyclists do take the piss with red lights but car drivers do too. As the Highway Code rightly says larger vehicles bear the greatest burden of responsibility towards safety on the road based on the level of potential damage that they can cause.
