I couldn’t move house if I wanted to as there’s nothing cheaper in the area and can’t be pulling kids out of schools etc. The only hints of support or emergency childcare (friends and neighbours) are in this area.
We have a takeaway on birthdays as a treat. I’m pretty careful about what I spend money on but had to blow my savings after covid as needed dental work done asap and had an unlucky run with washing machines and ovens breaking down in succession. Small cheap car owned outright but still needs petrol etc. Totally necessary as our cheaper house is cheaper due to its out of the way-ness and general lack of public transport.
There 100% are people who don’t live within their means. But there’s also people who are being fkd by council tax, school uniforms, wild power bills (despite sitting in the house with only 1 light on at night).
There’s so many nuances you can’t put a blanket statement on everyone’s circumstances. |
