I have not had a car all my life (10 years in Glasgow). Bought last year. It is not absolutely necessary for me but it makes life much easier, especially when you have children. My car is very cheap to run, 50 petrol per month, 20 road tax per year and 250 insurance and 85 permit. I will keep it as it is not too much of a burden atm.

I used to get away with trains, uber and car club but it is very unreliable and I was always under tine pressure so it made it not great for longer trips.
