I regularly volunteer litter-pick. The garbage is mostly food related and as a subset of food related garbage, mostly related to junk food consumed by school kids. The closer we get to a school when litter picking the volume goes way up and its all crisp pokes, energy drink cans and styrene food containers. I'd like to make a special cunt of the week mention for the people who pick up their dog shit in a bag and then throw the bag into the undergrowth.

My point is we have not taught our kids who then become garbage tossing adults to respect their environment for decades now. Also we dont have the cash to pay for the enhanced refuse collection that lack of respect for the environment requires. If you just rely on parents teaching their kids this, it clearly is not working.

Imho, We need a "Keep Scotland Beautiful" campaign that is taught in all schools. But there is no cash for that and it would take a generation before we saw any real improvement. So you either look at the garbage or come to the conclusion that probably the only people who will pick it up are like minded volunteers or individuals.
