As a single person, over £30k would be enough to live a comfortable life without having to worry about paying the bills and still have some luxuries like paying for satellite/cable telly, buying luxury items like game consoles/PCs and having enough dough to holiday every now and then.

However, as someone already said. Never is the real answer here. Your priorities change the more money you earn. Circumstances also come into play, such as the cost of being a parent and things like are you renting whilst also wanting to save to buy, obviously certain circumstances will require more.

I'm on £43k atm and live a fairly decent life. I pay my bills, have decent internet and Virgin telly, gaming consoles/PC and I go on holiday at least once a year. I also drive and have a sensible car that's not a banger (Kia Ceed so not flashy either). Fairly lucky, especially in today's financial climate. My girlfriend also earns about £22k so combined, we're pretty comfortable.

£21,000 per year would be difficult to live on as a single person. Especially with the price of everything shooting up nowadays.
