Comment | Covid has broken the old model of NHS dentistry. The government brought in lifelong registration back around 2010 or so, and this has led to practices having way too many patients registered per dentist. It was just about working because a fair proportion of those people only appeared sporadically, but now that we've been through covid these sporadic attenders are now all wanting to be seen at the same time, on top of our regular attenders. I can can't see all the people I have registered, let alone taking on new patients.
If you saw me today for a checkup and needed to come back for a filling or whatever, you'd be lucky to get an appointment before November.
I can't remember exactly, but before the change you were automatically deregistered by the NHS after three or four years of not attending. |
