ok. as someone who lived there for 25 years, here's a few things you need to know.

1. unless you live in an area like the village or hairmyres, you will likely need a car to get around. ek's infrastructure is pretty hostile towards anyone not in a car and public transport connections that aren't the train are really bad.
2. there's a few areas you might want to avoid during the weekend or at night. greenhills shops, whitehills shops, westwood shops and the murray shops come to mind.
3. if you are driving. get used to roundabouts.
4. if you're going out at the weekend, make sure you get the times of the night bus or be prepared to spend £35+ for a taxi home.

i don't have a high opinion of living there and personally wouldn't ever want to move back. but if it's only for a year or so and you're near a train station, it's workable
