By unionising, they have ensured that the power they have can be orchestrated and brought to bear on a single point, rather than it being an unorganised mess.
As for middle men, if you're referring to different layers of operations and management, I can say from first hand experience that trying to operate a company where everyone is "on the same level" doesn't work at all. It descends into chaos pretty quickly and the company I worked for that tried to implement it switched back to the conventional hierarchical system less than a year later. |
