Of course you'll be welcome! We love when people choose our country, for the most part. The southside has a big Indian and Pakistani community so even if you choose not to live in this bit, it's worth a visit for food shopping.

I second the advice about watching some Still Game or similar before coming here, with subtitles. Actually the Scottish accent is very clear when you get used to it - we pronounce some letters more like they are written (eg we say 'arr' for 'R' where English people would say 'ahh) but because it's not heard so widely out in the world people aren't tuned in to it.

December is the darkest month so don't be alarmed by the short days. By the end of January you'll see a bit of a difference and in June it's daylight until really late, like 10pm, which totally compensates.

You might be used to rain but it's windy here too, especially in winter. You'll often find a waterproof coat with a decent hood more useful than an umbrella.
