The council has a well documented policy framework of increasing the cost of car travel going back a few years now, in order to reduce the number of single-use vehicles on city centre streets (making the city centre more attractive to spend time) and importantly, to improve bus journey times which have cratered over the last 20 years as the number of cars on streets has nearly doubled.

Scotland has a national objective of reducing car journeys by 20% by 2030. Glasgow an even more ambitious target of reducing car journeys by 30% by 2030.

This isn't money-grabbing. It's part of a well publicised set of policy objectives.
